The youth-led rewilding group European Young Rewilders, who are a branch of Rewilding Europe, commissioned a digital illustration that could be used for their social media platform.

The brief was an illustration for World Rewilding Day on the 20th of March, and the theme was “Imagining a Wilder Future”.

The piece is of a landscape conjured up from an imagination with limitless possibilities and limited barriers.

I also wrote some words for their caption to go alongside the illustration:

“Initially the first thing that comes into my head when thinking of a wilder future is a landscape where lost species bounce back, lost ecosystem processes return and where wildlife can thrive and interact. The idea is very powerful to me and also makes me quite emotional as it is something I am so hoping for in the future. Once I had the idea the illustration came quite naturally!”

“I just wanted to get people to use their imagination when picturing a wilder future without any limitations. Because I think our imagination and creativity is actually very powerful and we shouldn’t forget that!”

The full design was sent to them so they could add their logo and text over the top, this was also factored into the final design.
